Two Seraphim come together, holding a cross; it might depict the host; the unleavened bread used in the Eucharist. In the Quran and the Jerusalem Bible, the ‘Heavenly Host’ refers the divine army of God that one may call upon for protection. This piece is one of a pair I found in Istanbul; I bought both and made them both into necklaces, before transforming them into true magical protection talismans.
I’ve never seen anything like these before, and neither have my contacts; powerful, ancient ritual pieces, not for daily wear but instead for ritual use. The Angels are in Ottoman style with turbans and feathered wings.
Stunning, antique, one of a kind.
41.58 grams solid silver. Ottoman Empire, at least 200 years old.
